2010 review pt. 2

I'm not going to lie...outside of the good things mentioned above, 2010 was a crappy year. I was just so stressed out all the time, and I had a lot of issues with people. But, that's life. You have so many things tossed at you, and you just get through it as best as you can. It's just a little bit easier when you don't have to go through it alone. It's also about how you choose to handle things. Do you let it build inside you, or you do just say screw it, and let it go? I tried to do the latter throughout the year and it was hard.

Thankfully, we're at the end of this very chaotic year. I'm just going to try to make 2011 a good year for me and my family. So, my fellow bloggers and readers, the next time I post will be January 1st. Have fun, be safe and just live. Don't worry about the crap you might have to deal with. Let it go for one night, and enjoy the people you love. See you in 2011, folks :)

2010 review pt 1

I was trying to figure out out I wanted to sum up 2010. I was just going to make a boring list, but I realized I really don't want to do that and don't have the time to. Then I found this meme from a fellow blogger. So here's the mindless part 1 of my 2010 review:

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Got married and moved away from my family.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions from last year and will you make any for 2011?
I didn't make a resolution. But I did make a list of things I wanted to accomplish. I think I only finished 3 or 4 out of 10.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, and I have a super cute nephew.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope

5. What countries did you visit?
No countries, unfortunately

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More money lol. And hopefully we'll be able to get our own place.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory...and why?
October 26, 2010, the day Alex and I got married.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Cutting ties with my parents and bad friends.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't think I really failed anything. I just had to push back some goals.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got sick right before Thanksgiving. Other than that, no.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
An out of print comic bought that Alex has been searching for for over a year

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Alex and his family. They took me in when I had no place to go, and they've been my support system during this whole transition.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My parents. And the "friends" that I thought would always be there for me.

14. Where did most of your money go?
The wedding, reception and of course bills

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Getting engaged, moving in with Alex, getting married then finding a job

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
I can't pick just one song. I have a frackin soundtrack.

17. Compared to last year, are you...
...happier/sadder? much happier
...thinner/fatter? thinner by about 10 pounds
...richer/poorer? richer, but not by much

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Been honest with others

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Stressing out about random stuff

20. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Going to see a movie with Alex, out to lunch then I'm making lasagna for family dinner

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
I fell harder for Alex :)

22. How many one-night stands?
Ummm, this meme knows I'm married, right?  ( I had to keep her answer lol)

23. What was your favorite TV program?
I must confess, Teen Mom, I was totally addicted to that trashy show.  (Yeah...me too)

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I make a point not to hate people. That being said, there definitely some people I still don't like.

25. What was the best book you read in 2010?
Foop! by Chris Genoa

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Along Those Lines. Awesome guys and great performers.

27. What did you want AND get?
My drivers license and a job

28. What did you want and NOT get?
A car

29. What was your favorite film of the year?
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

30. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
Hung out and had dinner. I'm 22

31. What ONE thing would have made your year immensely more satisfying?
Winning the lottery?

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Comfort. I was all for comfort

33. What kept you sane?
My husband and my in laws

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't really have a favorite. Most celebrities annoy the everliving crap outta me.

35. What political issues stirred you the most?
I really don't pay attention to politics anymore

36. Whom did you miss?
No one really

37. Who was the best new person you met?
All of my co-workers. I work with some kick-ass chicks

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson that you learned in 2010.
Don't stress out, everything really does happen for a reason and just be yourself.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
From "Killing Loneliness" by HIM:
"With the warmth of your arms, you saved me". I went with this one because Alex and I grew closer throughout the year, and he was definitely my rock during all the crappy times.

Music today, full post tomorrow.

I'm working on my New Years Eve/highlights of 2010 post. So, I'm going to post a video today. Here's "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" by Radiohead. I went with this one because it's beautiful yet haunting song. That, and Radiohead is just amazing.

The Devil You Know

Today I finally finished "The Devil You Know" by Mike Carey. All 501 pages of it. It's about Felix Castor, an exorcist hired to get rid of a ghost in a London archive building. The case quickly becomes more complicated when he realizes there's foul play involved. It was a pretty decent book, all things considered. The only thing I didn't like was that there seemed to be a lot of explaining the same thing more than once. And the author had a very roundabout way of tying people or events together. I guess I just prefer a straightforward explanation. But it's still an intriguing story, and I loved the main character. I felt bad for him at the same time. He has the worst luck, but then again he is a contract exorcist. I think what I loved most is that it went from horror to mystery, but it was flawless transition. I highly recommend this as long as you're not squeamish.

Two out of three ain't bad.

I saw 3 new movies: Revenge of the Dead Girls, Bad Biology and Sick Nurses. I then realized I have a habit of watching movies that I know will be highly disturbing or gross (or both). So, I'm not going to fight it anymore: I love weird movies, and I'm not going to deny that fact anymore. And boy, did I find some winners last night and this morning. Revenge of the Dead Girls stars...okay I have no frackin clue who those people were. It's some French horror movie that came out in the 80s. From what I understood, radioactive goo was placed into a milk supply, and the three girls that drank it dies and came back as really pissed off zombies. All I know is it had A LOT of nudity and gore.

Just to give you an example, the main scientist contracts a form of necrosis in his hand. This passes on to his pregnant wife's stomach. We are then treated to a lovely scene where her stomach literally dissolves and we her insides and an unborn fetus. Changing subjects for a moment, I was very uncomfortable after seeing that. I do not like to see anything that involves pregnant women being injured to the point where you actually see a fetus. I love horror movies, but I still have my friggin limit. But I digress. This movie really didn't make a whole lot of sense, so I can't really recommend it for any reason.

Next up we have Bad Biology. And all I can say is holy crap, who the hell came up with this? More actors I've never heard of, but it was an interesting story. It's about a woman who was born with a freak genetic mutation that left her with seven clitorises and the ability to conceive and give birth in under two hours. She's also insane and has a nasty habit of killing her sexual partners as soon as they orgasm. Her equally screwed up match is Batz, a guy that has a monster penis with its own mind. I'll spare you anymore details. I will say that given the subject matter, it is a very well written movie. It was really funny once you get past the visuals. That being said, I don't even know who I would recommend this to or if I could recommend it...

Last we have Sick Nurses. It's an Asian horror movie, so it's bound to be all kinds of messed up. And it totally delivers. A doctor and six nurses make money off of harvesting dead bodies. Don't ask me why they do it or how they got started. It's never explained. I'm actually okay with that because it's not an important part of the story. The doctor cheats on his girlfriend/soon to be fiancee with one of the nurses and she gets pregnant. Well the girlfriend doesn't take it to well, and threatens to go to the police. So the doctor and nurses ban together and kill her. Unfortunately for them, she comes back and gets her revenge.

This is an interesting film because in most revenge movies, you feel sorry for the victim, but at least one of the attackers wants forgiveness and you want them to live. That's definitely not the case here. The pregnant nurse (who happens to be the sister of the murdered woman) actually tries to kill the ghost again by stabbing her, then burning her corpse. I don't know why, but it kind of pissed me off. First you betray your own blood by sleeping with the love of her life, get knocked up, kill your sister and then have the nerve to kill her again? I call shenanigans. But like I said, she gets her revenge...by possessing her pregnant sisters body and forcing her to give birth to her again. The problem is she wasn't always a she. That's right folks! Our murder victim was actually a man that had a sex change so the doctor would marry him/her. I didn't say it made sense, I just said it was a good movie. While I liked it, I just don't have the heart to recommend it unless you're a hardcore horror fanatic.

Awesome Music Weekend vol. 3

Finally things are back to normal. I've been trying to figure out which song to pick, and I actually had a hard time today. I decided on "Killing Loneliness" by HIM. No real back story to this one, I just didn't want to spend the rest of the day narrowing down songs.

Happy holidays

Well, we're finally here: the holiday that turns everyone into a jackass. And now it's just one week until New Years Eve. I go to work tomorrow and Thursday, and that will be the end of 2010. But before that, I still have to get through today even though I won't be celebrating it anymore. So, for my readers that will be celebrating, this one's for you :)

Zombie Strippers. Includes lots of (disgusting) spoilers

For reasons still unknown to me, I decided to watch Zombie Strippers this afternoon. I had heard about it right before it was released, and of course I was curious. And...curiosity really does kill the cat (no pun intended). Somehow some zombie virus gets out. The beginning even gives you clues that this movie is going to be ridiculous. Apparently, the lab that the virus escapes from is right next to a strip club. Makes total sense right? Oh wait...it gets so much worse.

The infected zombie/soldier bites the star of the club, played by Jenna Jameson. And instead of immediately trying to eat the patrons of this lovely establishment, she gets the urge to...strip. And, because this movie makes a ton of sense already, everyone loves it. The owner, played by the awesome Robert Englund, decides she's his new cash cow. And other strippers get infected,  more patrons get eaten, you see lots of boobs (I can't help but feel like this was aimed at necrophiliacs)...that is literally the whole movie for about half an hour.

Finally we reach the climax: A showdown between the main zombie stripper and her competition. It's so over the top and gross that it isn't even funny. I kind of tuned out when Jameson starts shooting different sized balls out of her vagina as weapons. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how the rest of the movie ended, I stopped paying attention because I was so grossed out.

All in all, Zombie Strippers is B-Movie Horror at it's finest. Or worse, depending on how you view it. So, if you want to see gore, zombies strippers and decaying boobs, this is perfect for you. Otherwise? Never, ever watch this piece of crap.

Movie/Game/Book day. Woot

Another light post today. I've had a lot of stuff on my mind that's kind of private. So for today, I'm just going to watch movies, play video games and read. Hopefully I'll be in the right frame of mind to write tomorrow.

I just realized today that it has been over 6 months since I last said anything to my parents.  My parents did a lot of things to hurt me. It's because of them that I'm $3000 in debt, and I can't go back to school until next fall. They have a lot of emotional and mental issues, and unfortunately they took them out on me. I feel like I should make peace with them, but I'm just not ready. I'm happier now than I ever was with them. I'm now able to build up myself esteem without having two people constantly tearing me down. I have people that want me to do what's best for me and don't try to benefit from whatever that may be. I don't hate them, but I have absolutely no feelings toward them. I feel like I should because their my parents, but I don't. To me, they're just a part of my past....

2011 Goals/Day Zero (101 in 1001 project).

I'm going to try something really different. I didn't want to do the traditional New Years resolution/give up after a month or two. I wanted to do something that would last longer and have a greater impact. So, I decided to do the 101 in 1001 days project. Basically, you pick 101 things and you try to accomplish all of them in 1001 days. And it could be anything you want. Mine is very art/entertainment oriented, but I also have stuff like "make peace with people whose friendships with me ended badly" and "write a bad memory on a piece of paper, then burn it".

I tried to pick things that I knew would have a lasting impact on the rest of my life, not for just three years. Alex even said he'd do some of those things with me. But, 90% of it I really need to do on my own. I'm really not going to do this in its exact order. I feel if I do it that way, I'll be setting myself up for failure. I know is going to be a hell of a ride for me. And it all starts January 1st, 2011.

Awesome Music Weekend vol. 2 pt 2

I'm going to go with "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell. I think it's pretty catchy. There's an official music video, but I decided to go with the opening credits from Casino Royale because they kinda kick ass.

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Awesome Music Weekend vol. 2

I decided to go with "Dead End Friends" by Them Crooked Vultures. There's really no special reason, I just love the song and I'm a fan of Josh Homme.

I'm so happy I could cry...

I'm having Bob Evans for dinner tonight. Yes, I am that happy about food. I don't care how that makes me sound. I love food, and Bob Evans has amazing food. Anyways...I also got more books today. I believe my total is 10, including the one I got a couple days ago. I also started one called Foop! It really is called Foop! It's about a guy who time travels to try and figure out who keeps beating the everliving snot out of his boss. So, far it's hilarious. And those are the only events worth noting right now. I'm just going to relax because I have to be at work at 7:45 in the morning. Stupid early morning holiday shoppers...

Proof of awesomeness

I probably mentioned this before, but Alex and I are video game nerds. A couple days ago, he downloaded the Billy Joel track pack for Rock Band 3. Here's how we did:

Yes, we were #1 on Piano Man (Expert Vocals and Medium Keys). He got #1 for Expert Vocals on You May Be Right, and I got #2 for Medium Keys. And that is my nerd moment of the day.

Awesome Music Weekend vol. 1 pt 2

Ok, here's Sunday's round of epicness. Today's video is "Oh My God" by Ida Maria. I'm going with this because it pretty much sums up my life right now. It's an odd video, but don't let it distract you from the song.

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Awesome Music Weekend vol. 1

I got an idea. Now, this won't be anything original, but bear with me. I want to post a music video of one of my favorite artists/songs every Saturday or Sunday, maybe both if I feel like it. I don't own any of the stuff I will post, so please don't shut me down whoever might be reading this. I just want to share my favorite music. So...the first will be "Starfuckers Inc." by Nine Inch Nails. However, the only decent video I could find is of the edited version "Starsuckers Inc." It sucks, but the song is still epic in its edited form. Enjoy peeps :)

I can drive!

I finally got my drivers license today. I've been waiting for this for 4 years. The only reason why it took me so long is because my parents said I was a crappy driver. I only made 2 mistakes during my road test, and I was allowed 10. Further proof my parents are idiots and they really didn't want me to succeed at anything. Then again, I kind of knew that already...

Sunday, December 5, 2010

Hmm...

Today was a very productive day at work. I work at a calendar kiosk, and I got to help process shipment. I did very well. I managed to clear two carts by myself. I felt good about it. And tomorrow I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn so I can take my road test. But, I suppose it's just a necessary evil.

Free time

Like everyone else, I love my days off. Even more so now that I'm working during the holidays. And I was finally able to catch up of some of my games. Onechanbara is awesome and very interesting. Is a very simple game, but I like it so far. Fragile Dreams is visually stunning. I like the story so far. I'm a big fan of dreamlike games. Elite Beat Agents is pretty cool. I was kind of hoping it would have better music, but I still like the style of it. Anyways, I was just taking a break to write a quick post. Now it's time to study (blech), and then back to killing zombies. I love being weird :)

Before I go to bed...

I almost didn't get to post tonight. Our internet crapped out for a few hours. But, I decided to check one more time, and here I am. I'm so happy I have the next 4 days off. I love my job, but it's murder on my back and feet. It doesn't help that the $60 sneakers I got back in April apparently have no support. I haven't worn them since May, and I saved them for when I got a job. It sucks, but it could always be worse. Thankfully Alex is taking me shoe shopping on Tuesday. Until then, I'm going to enjoy my days off and recuperate from this weekend. And today marks my first full week of blogging. Whoo hoo.

And I have 3 new video games to play: Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (it was actually my idea to get that), Elite Beat Agents and Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. I kind of wanted to start with the zombie one because, well it's zombies. But, I'm a sucker for music games. Alex turned me into a Rock Band fanatic. Ah, this is the only time I like having too many choices :)
